Ra-den has proven to be a difficult boss with complicated overlaps of mechanics and a tight DPS and healing check. Earlier today, Limit started using a unique strategy to deal with the new Mythic debuff to reduce the complexity of the encounter, but this has now been hotfixed.
Mythic Basics
On Mythic, Ra-den has a new Orb called the
Essência do Pesadelo
, in addition to his other orbs. You can still only kill one Orb on Mythic, which means that you'll need to deal with two sets of simultaneous mechanics which all have a strict positioning requirement. The new positional mechanic for the Nightmare phase is
Pesadelo Instável
which jumps to the
closest player
, with a minimum range of 15 yards, as it cleaves within that range.
This means that each phase will need to deal with two of the following positional mechanics:
Vita:
Vita Instável
which jumps to the farthest target and the raid cannot be between those players.
Nightmare:
Pesadelo Instável
which jumps to the closest target and no one can be within 15 yards of the debuff.
Void:
Caos Instável
which is a bouncing orb that must be soaked and can be controlled directionally.
In addition to these, the adds also have a mechanic that tries to force players out of position:
Vita:
Cadeia de Raios
which targets a player and chains to the group if they are too close to another player.
Nightmare:
Inferno do Pavor
which targets multiple players, summoning a pool of fire that chases them.
Void:
Colapso do Caos
which targets a player and forces the group to stack to split the damage, or sacrifice the player.
In other words, it's a positioning
Nightmare
, so dealing with the minimum number of mechanics is important to make the fight easier.
Mythic Ra-den Encounter Journal
The Unique Strategy: Pre-Immuning
About 3 hours ago, Limit started using a pre-immune strategy to negate the
Pesadelo Instável
debuff. This means that, when the
Pesadelo Instável
was about to jump to the closest player, if that closest player was in an immunity, such as an
Bloco de Gelo
or
Escudo Divino
, the debuff was immuned and fizzled completely.
The Ra-den Hotfix
Blizzard recently applied a hotfix and now the
Pesadelo Instável
debuff pierces immunities and gets applied to the player even if an immunity is active.
Discussion
This hotfix was applied in the middle of the day, similar to the
Mythic Jaina Water Elemental Hotfix
which nerfs the prevalent strategy on the fight but the water elemental hotfix was later reverted. Even when removing
Pesadelo Instável
entirely, Ra-den is a very difficult and complicated fight and this hotfix makes it even harder. After 3 hours with this strategy, Limit was close to a kill with a 15.5% wipe and now they need to relearn Phase 1 and handle the debuff correctly.
Regarding the idea of Pre-immunities, you may remember a similar strategy that was used for the chains on the Mythic Argus fight:
Sentença de Sargeras
. Players used pre-immunities to completely negate the debuff from applying. This was later fixed and the one debuff removed as a result, but many guilds killed it while pre-immuning was still a valid strategy. Pre-immuning was also used on Varimathras in Antorus, to negate the
Abraço Necrótico
debuff by using
Aspecto da Tartaruga
from a Hunter and Varimathras was also killed by guilds before the debuff was changed to pierce immunities.
It's clear that Blizzard doesn't like pre-immunity strategies, but should they leave it once it's already out? Let us know when you think.
