This axe is just ok, goes for around 100g on most servers. There are more useful items out there, and being that it is an axe the only dual wielders that can use it are warriors, hunters, and now shamans. For a warrior, its not as great because they need their +strength and +stamina. Hunters need +agility and a shaman that can dual wield this will be at least level 40 and will have better items anyway

This is probably the worst epic item in the game. Weak proc, slow speed, unattractive glows when enchanted, etc.

For tanking, you should go for a faster 1H weapon. Tanks should skip this in favor of the Dark Iron Destroyer ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=17016 ), the Bone-Slicing Hatchet ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=18737 ) or the Iceblade Hacker ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=13952 ) if they're dead-set on using an axe. Dual-wielders should use faster weapons.

There's no reason at all for this to go for more than 60g or so, but on my server it usually goes for 100g or more. It's completely not worth anyone's time. I question Blizzard's reasoning for making this an epic.

For the level it is (required level 52) this axe is actually a lot better than the above are claiming. Apart from a Krol Blade if you picked this up at the AH @ Level 52 it would be a significant upgrade in DPS from whatever you were using before, and nothing exceptionally better comes along until you hit 60.

Try to compare the DPS of this with the DPS of Princess Theradras' Scepter (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=17766).
This has 41.5 DPS and the two hander 3 levels under only has 5 more DPS, so I would say that this is a pretty decent weapon for damage dealing. I use this myself on my lvl 54 warrior, and I until I get a better two hander I'm gonna keep DW'ing.

Gotta say that this axe is really awesome at level 52 and i will probably be using it all the way to 58, plus i got it as a drop, so that helps

This is the best main hand weapon for enhancement shaman by far, at least until you hit 61 and start dual wielding https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=31139

It should make grinding to 60 a breeze, but I wouldn't consider paying over 70g for it, unless I'm swimming in gold.

I had this axe until 61 or something, bought it for about 80 g or something, used it a lot to farm air essences from the vortexes in silithus which.. are immune to nature damage xD.Nice proc anyway.Then I vendored it and some time after when I tried to solo the lich from andorhal to get the scholo key, I also did a q to kill some temporal parasites and it dropped for me :P. Sold it for 65 g.

it is a lot better because of the added on dragon whelps and it also has a higher drop rate than this axe, so in my opinion go with the dragons call

As of 5/13/2008 this weapon is no longer tagged Main Hand. It is a one hand weapon now and can be dual wielded. I just bought 2 from the auction house right after today's patch. They were not terribly expensive and now my Shaman can dual wield them when he hits level 52. They have a great slow speed for Windfury and unless you feel like farming Rivenspikes in LBRS, then a pair of these is a great way to go.....Thank you Blizzard!

They've fixed the procrate so that it no longer depends on weapon speed alone. An Arcanite Reaper with Crusader should now proc just as often as any 1.50 speed dagger with the same enchant, looking at the average time between each proc.

This axe is a good axe for fury spec no doubht, and "flurry axe" is nice but has VERY low high end dps and low pro rate, before it was nerfed when it could pro 2 hits it was god like. duel weilding them was uber. But having a "axe of the deep woods" and "flurry blade" gives mixed speeds and weird high (mainhand) and then low (offhand) damage.

I personially used to use 2 bone slicing hatchets because of the fast speed and identical speed of the wepons, plus the 58 agi gave me abojut 2.90% crit from just having them plus 5% axe spec.

If your going for duel weild fury spec then get 2 bone slicing hatchets with 15+ agi. Other then that your just settling for second best, even if "axe of the deep woods" and "flurry blade" are epic.

Before i swapped to pro spec to tank for MC/ZG i used to have 32% crit in battle stance without potions/scrolls/spells/buffs.

But from a warrior with alot of experience in fury/arms mixes that combo is just second best

You forgot to mention that this is a great weapon for an Enhancement Shaman, I currently wield this weapon on my 52 shammy, great dps and speed for windfury procs...picked it up on AH for 34g

REALLY slow means big damage, not good for tanks, they need high dps and fast speeds. This is juse a good weapon to buy if you have some extra money and like to see some big numbers while dual wielding.

I've been known to be VERY unlucky in rare drop rates. I almost never get them. This is the first epic ever to drop for me while questing. I was with someone 4 lvls higher then me in silithus. Droped off a Dust stormer add. Nearly $%^& myself when I saw the 2 mobs on the screen where glowing for me. I checked the first one and nothing. Checked the dust stormer and HFS!I nearly shyte myself. I'm a hunter so the attack speed isn't that great but omg I'm so happy, I dunno what I want to do with it.

Anyone know what is DE into? Just curious

Gratz on that drop anorlien. Since the last patch all purple items DE into Nexus Crystal 100% of the time. Some disencahnt predictors will say Large *something* shard but that prepatch, now they always dis into Nexus Crystals.

Was killing Winterfall creeps at Winterfall Village to get my rep up for Timbermaw Hold so that I can turn in 2 totems that I got... then this item dropped from a Winterfall Ursa! Lucky me. Was about to log out that time before this dropped but I said to myself I'll kill all the creeps that I see around me first. Good thing that I did :)

My Friend (lvl 60 warrior) Got this on his FIRST scholo run. it was his second epic drop. hmm 20 minuts l8r in the same instance, he wom a reroll on the epic warlock tailor thingy. can't remember name. So know he's the glad owner of a Axe Of the deep woods. i was on the phone with him. he freaked out =)

But little me, is still looking forward to my first epic drop =)

bought it at level 53... hoping this thing will get me through tanking till level 60... i see some blue level 58 weapons just starting to surpass it in dps... figure when the time comes, i will drop my 300 skinning, disenchant this and any other soulbound items i get till then, then go back and level my skinning again :)

when you think of it like that, it really doesn't cost much more than a blue weapon of that level ;)

except i'm gonna prolly have to buy that 50g bank slot at some point... DOH!

I have been trying to find this Axe for some time now. Friend of mine said there is an elite Dyno in Un'Goro Crater that drops it. He is hard to find even though he is so big. I have killed him like 20 times and so far nothing. Im on the Dragonmaw server and hord (of course). toons name is Umogg. if anyone wants to sell it or tell me where i can find it. got mine for 175g from some noob (on high pop server -- SH pvp). debating whether or not to use this as my tank weapon, or keep using my masterwork stormhammer (when no CC), silent fang, and 40dps +100armor 9str weapon instead.

the 2.7 speed and the crit associated w/ that would be so sweet that i'll equip it. and i have my epic mount, why not :)

Yes, this Axe is Pre-Raid BiS for Orc Fury Warriors. However, don't be fooled by the fact it's epic, it only sims slightly higher than many other high level rare one hand axes that drop in dungeons. I suggest saving your money unless you literal have no other options.
