The battlegrounds no longer give any experience. There is no forced experience gain.

Corpsemaker is still as popular as ever for the level 29 twink.

Thing is, a while ago (a year, can't remember exactly), you had battlegrounds ranging from 21-30, 31-40 and so on. For shamans, this was especially true, as you got Windfury at 30. Coupled with this axe, you could push out some amazing numbers.

Same would go for Pendulum of doom (4.00 speed) and MS-warriors. Crazy combination.

Imo, until 40, warriors do not need slow weapons. Until you get mortal strike/whrilwind, there's just no actual gain gotten from the lack of speed. This weapon is really best for a shaman/paladin because of Windfury and SoC respectively.

Did some serious number crunching to compare this to the Cobalt Crusher ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=7730#M0z )

Compare the base DPS of each weapon. The Cobalt Crusher is obviously higher (the +5 Frost Damage is already figured in for you). Lets do look at the stats from the Corpsemaker.

28.9 DPS
+15 Str
+8 Sta

Strength to DPS is calculated:

Player Level x 3 + Strength x 2 - 20 = AP
14 AP = 1 dps

29 (assuming a twink warrior would be using this) x 3 + 15 x 2 - 20 = 97 AP
97 / 14 = 6.9 dps

Altered Corpsemaker DPS = 35.8

Now the Corpsemaker all of a sudden looks like an item with more DPS.

Now the back to the Cobalt Crusher. It does have a Chance on Hit that should not be ignored when considering its overall DPS. I have read in a few places that it seems to proc about 10% of the time. Lets see how many times it would proc in a minute if the 10% is accurate :

Speed = 3.2
Swings per minute is 60 / 3.2 = 18.75
18.75 (swings per minute) / 10 = 1.875 procs per minute

Now lets calculate how much DPS this would add to the Cobalt Crusher.

(using www.wowwiki.com/DPS calculation table)
CoH = 110-120 Frost Damage
110 x 1.875 = 206.25
120 x 1.875 = 225

(using www.wowwiki.com/DPS calculation table)
206.25 - 225 Frost Damage per minute (based on 1.875 procs per minute)
(206.25 + 225)/2 = 215.625 / 60 (based on per minute scale) = 3.59 dps

30.5 + 3.59 dps = 34.1 (rounded) dps
If you increase the 1.875 to 2 (because you couldn't get a .875 proc) then the dps is increased to 34.3 dps.

So now we have 35.8 dps compared to 34.3 dps. For each extra proc you get in a minute, you add 1.9 dps to the Cobalt Crusher. So if you get 3 procs in one minute, the DPS of the Cobalt Crusher is now 36.2 (keep in mind if the 10% proc rate is accurate, then you will have easily 4 procs a minute).

Now, lets factor in an enchant. Lets say Crusader.

Crusader has a proc that is 15 seconds long. A weapon at 3.8 speed (Corpsemaker) will swing 3.94 times during those 15 seconds. A weapon at 3.2 speed (Cobalt Crusher) will swing 4.68 times during those 15 seconds. With that said it is possible to get that extra swing or 2 in during those 15 seconds (considering if it procced from an instant strike right before your regular swing).

Yet another factor involed (if you had crusader on both):

Crusader adds 100 str during those 15 seconds.

29 x 3 + 100 x 2 - 20 = 267 AP
267 / 14 = 19.1 (rounded) dps.

So during the Crusader proc:

Corpsemaker = 54.9 dps

Cobalt Crusher = 49.6 dps (not factoring in a proc from the CoH)

Final Conclusion:

Corpsemaker = 35.8 dps
w/ Crusader proc = 54.9 dps

Cobalt Crusher = 34.3 dps (with a moderate 2 procs per minute from CoH)
w/ Crusader proc = 49.6 dps (not factoring in a proc from the CoH)

EDIT: I am open for corrections on my math. I know some CoH's are set with a timer making them impossible to proc twice in a certain amount of time. Please feel free
to correct me on those calculations. Also, its impossible for me to factor in a player having resistance to the frost damage of the CoH of the Cobalt Crusher.

Beautiful axe for Warriors and Shamans alike. Even Pallys could get in on it a bit I guess. Combine this weapon with Windfury from Shamans and this weapon is unstoppable.

I think Lifesteal enchant on this axe is almosts as good as Crusader.

Lifesteal has been more powerfull and procs more often in the new patch.

Someone did a test, i don't remember where, and they found out that lifesteal's CoH was 18.somthing% on a 2.10 Speed axe! Then it wil be 30++% on Corpsemaker because of it's low speed :)

unlike most people say, this IS infact a really powerful weapon in the hands of a hunter. As a 34 normal-geared hunter my raptor strike crit so far is 561, topping my old crit with more than 200. If you are a twink using this expect 600+ crits coming with enough agi. Great for a raptor strike/wingclip combo if you're short on space.

This weapon is realy slowly but with ıron counterweight u can hit 3.57 speed and it realy good for dps
My 32 lvl shaman has it and ı can hit 390 + 500 + 572 (its my recor :D)

I'm just gonna add... I know That Wowhead says there a 31% drop chance, but I bought 9 run throughs today and tusken helm dropped all 9 times...

A Paladin with Seal of Command would do excellently with this. Seal of Command has a PPM (proc per minute), which means that the slower your weapon is the higher your proc chance is (overall, you'd get the same amount of procs in a minute, but I mean per swing, which is important in PvP).

So, since this weapon is so very slow, Seal of Command would proc very consistently, unlike Windfury for a Shaman, which just has a flat 20% chance to proc.

This is great for a Shaman once they hit 30, though. The slower your weapon, the more "oomph" Windfury has when it does proc, and since it has a 20% chance to proc rather than a PPM, you can get procs one swing after another. A Paladin is less likely to see the same thing with Seal of Command, though it can happen (it's more likely to occur on slow weapons, like this).

By far, this is the best weapon for a Warrior, Retribution Paladin, or Enhancement Shaman at this level. In the 20-29 bracket with Crusader or Fiery Weapon on it, this weapon would quickly tear through even twinks.

If you can't find a group, find a higher level player that's willing to help you through. The boss that drops this isn't very far in Razorfen Kraul, and it usually doesn't take too many attempts to get it (if it doesn't drop, just run out and reset to try again). Personally, I'd be happy to help a lowbie through to get this weapon. I've used it before on other characters, and it really is quite a spectacular weapon for its level.

In response to the green wall of text above me your calculations are horrible wrong. The corpsemaker is better in every way. You factored in 4 procs per minute from the crusher but it has a 30 second internal coodown on the proc making it have a max of 2 procs per minute not 4.

Your calculations are VERY bad. You've subbed in numbers which shouldn't even be going into places.

The strength to attack power formula you used calculates BASE attack power of any normal character. The instant one adds in even one extra point of strength, that formula can't be used.

In the end, when you were talking about the crusader enchant, I thought you'd FINALLY get it right - but you don't?!?!

Cobalt crusher hits more times in the 15 seconds than does Corpsemaker. Although Corpsemaker has a negligible amount of attack power given by its stats, it still would never match up to cobalt crusher. The only reason I personally go with Corpsemaker is for the added stamina

I think this is a very good weapon for a shaman, because you can do uber crits. I once quested in Hillsbrad Foothills and some lock lvl 30 attacked me (I was lvl 31). I had like 10% life left and he had like 80%, I critted him with WF + fiery enchant and he died in a second. It's a great weapon for arms warriors and ret pallas too.

My shaman is horribly geared because I have basically been focusing on trying to level up. I got this weapon cus someone else wanted to farm runs for this weapon on our shamans. Took 2-3 runs a piece w/ Tuscan Helm dropping almost every time, but we got it. I was fortunate to have Windfury proc on a crit w/ 2 following crits of the windfury, luck I guess but the I saw 312,328,326 and the mob was dead. Honestly, because WF is not a PPM like crusader, I dont really suggest it for leveling, especially for shaman. I think 2.7-3.0 2Her is a good speed to work with because you will see more WF procs in a fight, they just wont be as big. For PvP and Enhancement shaman would benefit as you might not get so many swings so you have to make every one count. This is my opinion so please take it as that. I would actually suggest the Viscious Hammer or Theromplugg's Left Arm as they have raw stats alot like the Corpsemaker.

Let us not forget This 2h Axe is beneficial more to Orcs, where as cobalt crusher to humans due to the expertise change in the game. Thus for PvP cutting your enemies chance to dodge or parry is a ig part, and +5 Expertise with Axes (in the Orcs Case) is huge for this.

I would rather have this https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=9459 on my shaman than Corpsemaker... Cause speed of the weapon have zero impact on WF procs... That means, if u have the slow weapon and the WF procs 20% of those times.. it means that the slower weapon doesnt smack out WF as often as a faster weapon, although the top end dmg would be higher once u get the WF proc. On my shaman i use Rockbiter weapon on my Corpsemaker cause i found out that its easier killing the mobs with a set amount of dps insted of relying on the WF procs.. with that said, i think that https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=9459 is the best shaman wep till u get dual wield and not corpsemaker if ure gonna go with WF.

I can safely say that this axe does not have a 31% drop rate.

I have run 11 times, and gotten the tusken helm all 11 times. Thottbot says that it has a 1.4% drop and atlasloot claims a 24% drop. I wonder if the rework of lowbie dungeon drops has affected the drop rate of the axe.

Does anyone else have some insight?

This is not correct, because you've counted the (29 x 3 - 20) part twice and forgot about the static 15 STR which will still be available under Crusader. You have to recalculate the new total strength after Crusader procs.

With Crusader up, the new AP becomes 29 x 3 + 115 x 2 - 20 = 297, which would mean about 50 DPS (i.e. about 14 DPS more, which makes a lot of sense since the additional 100 STR from Crusader evaluate to 200 AP = 14.3 DPS :-).

How long will this weapon last a Ret Pally?? I planed to get the 2h mace from SM Cath. just wondering if how long can the corpsemaker last me till i get that cuz i think it is like lvl 39ish.. Reason being i wanted to know i was given a free icy while surfing threw the AH person pst me asking if i wanted a icy. i asked if it was free..((you know how 70s like to joke)) and they were serious and i got the enchant on it she gave me it cuz it would give her a lvl up... So i want to keep it for as long as i can. At 42ish i plan to respec to prot..

Great shammy weapon, i was 1-shotting stuff at 30 when i got windfury.
A good upgrade for the alliance is Bonebiter. You can get it at 34 with some help. This is where the chain to get it starts.

Just like any decent weapon in the game, this one has lead to people flaming eachother over it and a constant display of idiocy.

some reasons that each class that can use this axe, should lot.

Warrior- Just because whirlwind axe is level 30, doesn't mean that you aren't going to stick around at 29 for pvp. An arms specc calls for a good two hander, and with improved overpower this thing could do some insane damage in the 29 brachet. Stats are good, overall 29 warriors could go crazy with this thing.

Paladin- For the most part, slow hard hitting weapons are great for pvp. This is a perfect example. Though paladin doesn't benefit as highly as a warrior, the stats are still nice and you can definitely swing this around in place of your verigan fist if you're going to pvp at 29.

Shaman- Maybe bias since I play a shaman, but since most of us are interested in pvp, and many are enhance specc, this weapon is undoubtedly superb. I got it tonight in RFK on my 27. I haven't tested it out yet, obviously, but there are no other comparable weapons to pvp with in this brachet. I have a 20.3 dps axe (3.6 speed, 85 max damage) that I can constantly crit 250-300 with in pvp at the moment, so to contradict whoever said that 400 crits were impossible with this, you sir are very wrong.

Hunter- If a hunter lots on this over a warrior paladin or shaman, they probably need to realize that they're an idiot. Yes, it has nice dps, yes the stamina helps hunters, but come on. I have rolled hunter, and I know well that AP Agi and Crit are the stats you want on your melee weapon. Survival specc? That doesn't mean that you should be killing mobs with melee... on horde, get the outlaw blade and dual weild with wingblade or cruel barb and you'll be a much better hunter.

I believe the first 3 classes have every right to lot, and hunters can take it if no warriors/paladins/shamans in the group want it. All a hunter would be doing by equipping this is gimping themself.

well, since warriors have pretty much no instant attacks at all (except overpower) before lvl 40 this really ain't THAT good for a warrior. an enhancement shaman would put it to better use imo

i think this is a great weapon for someone who is working on a two-handed tree. i get crits with it all the time.

Also had one of my guildies fiery enchant it for me, so it's got that going for it too.

got run thru this instance 8 times corpsemaker dropped 5 of 8 and tusken helm dropped 4 of 8. The named Blind hunter only spawned once of the 8 runs so i never got the shoulders for my priest. =(

i got this axe on my level 28 pally...the group i was in was a good one and helped me, the first time he droped tusken helm than me a level 25 priest level 30 warrior and me 3 man it till the corpesmaker dropped and i leveled as we killed the boss =)

This is not bad for 29 Twink Warrior, since the bleed effect stacks with rend. Corpsemaker is better though, higher DPS and +11 strength +6 stamina.

got this today on my warrior (lvl 32 now, havent updated the sig) the attack speed is the only drawback to this weapon, but the 150-200 white normal hits and 300-400 white crits are awesome, and with rank 2 of execute, 600+ HITS are worth the wait in between swings, and i do quite nicely with rage generation

I see that there is another great discussion of what class deserves this weapon. Complete with self-righteous obscenities.

Given that this drops over one fourth the time, I would think everyone who wants one could get it. Get a high level friend to run you through the instance and you don't even have to argue!

As for which class deserves a weapon, here is my point of view: if I have the weapon, it might help me. If someone else gets the weapon, it can't help me. Class doesn't enter into the equation.

The fact that Blizzard allows a class to equip a type of weapon implies that they think a class may benefit from using it. If two-handed axes were only for warriors, then only warriors could equip them. The same is true for any other weapon/class combination.

I have had people see me in town and whisper me in-game to tell me I shouldn't have the weapon I have equipped. Oh, so I should vendor it right away to preserve the sanctity of their views of who should have weapons? The fact that the weapon works better than the alternatives doesn't matter? Minding their own business isn't a priority?

Great Weapon, definatley a warrior peice and is great until W.W Wep. But im not a warrior, im an Enhancement Shaman, and love this thing. Dmg range is great and Crits are beautiful, get Windfury in one lvl <snicker> =-). And no I didint gip any warriors for it lol, I defaulted to any warriors I was grouped with who wanted it and even made one take it although he said he didint want, he thanked me after his next WSG =-). I got it on my 6th run through at 27 and am now using it to demolish in WSG. Great Weapon.

Also, surprisingly enough, very useful for a hunter, as long as you use meelee a lot. That's possibly because I don't have a really good bow/gun for my level (Venomstrike for a lvl 30), but still!

Lemme put it this way for you, It works for 29 twinked hunters, IF THEYRE SURVIVAL. Jousting is common in pvp, and it never hurts to get a huge raptor strike crit. No agi? Slip on a 25 agi enchant.(unless the new enchant nerf doesnt let it happen) Sure, your ranged ap will be a bit lacking, but your raptor strikes will hurt like hell, because there are some instances where you cant avoid melee. If your marksman, then yes youre better off with an armor piercer(I think thats the 11 agi polearm from rfk), but dont criticize hunters with this. As long as they didnt roll against a shaman, pally, or warrior, its fine.

i just got the axe for my paladin and i got to say it is an awesome weapon, rips all over the weapon i had before it(amour piercer), i have gone through razourfen kraul about twelve times now and it had only dropped twice, a level 30 warrior took it so thats why i had the amour piercer. great weapon for a level 29 in the battle grounds, warsong's my favorite so far.

Well I was using my friends level 60 warrior to grind ab rep. Someone I know from irc asked for someone to rush him through. After about 8 runs (7 helms, and a whole lot of disenchants, and even a blue ring that was nice for his 29) we finally got it. Hes about 5k till windfury and goddamn I feel bad for any warsong gulchers

I have this baby with crusader on my twinked 29 warrior, this thing is so godly.

By far the best two handed weapon for the 20-29 bracket.

This is definately worth getting.

Killed him a total of 16 times in Classic now, and seen Corpsemaker only drop three times. The drop chance is NOT 61%. It's closer to 5%.

Warriors get their Machado Redemoinho / Martelo de Guerra Redemoinho / Espada Redemoinho on their level 30 classquest. So Warriors, be the nice guy and let the shamans have this one.

There was another comment suggesting that in classic the drop rate is lower. Anecdotally we also had a lot lower drop rate with this and got 3 in 13 runs. Thankfully you can get pretty fast at running for this, even still getting decent xp, taking as little as 10 minutes.

An absolute must-have for any leveling Ret paladin. With a 3.8 swing speed, you've got a ~44% chance to proc Command on every swing. Throw a Fiery Enchant on it and you've got an absolute beast of a weapon that won't be replaced until the early 40s, with things like Executioner's Cleaver.
