Drops from Lord Ahune, the summonable daily boss for the Midsummer Fire Festival.

Blizzard has claimed that this staff along side with 3 epic capes drops from Lord Ahune, which is same kind of boss as Headless Horseman was during halloween. He can be summoned in slave pens and he is summonable only during Midsummer Fire Festival.
I'm pretty sure you will see loads of these when Midsummer Fire Festival hits live, just like there were loads of horseman helms around at halloween.
Thought in form of spell damage this weapon is not as good as gladiator weapons obtained with honor, this staff is still nice item for casters who are starting raiding. And ofc the look is awesome, which is already a reason to get this ;)

The 2nd scythe available in game for Warlocks, the first being the lvl 50 quest staff, if you're a 70 lock. then theres no argument about it. GET ONE.

Just like to add that this staff has a use effect. Like the Helm from Halloween, it isn't labeled but it's there. Use effect gives you a snow aura that lasts for 1 minute with a minute cooldown.

If you have a repair bot out when somone summons him. The repair will repeat what the summoning player says.

The drop rate is kinda iffy for this staff, hopefully we can get some good data uploaded soon.
Many reports on here of things like 10 runs with none dropped, few friends said the same.
However...
We did 5, got one on the 5th kill.
Did another with another group and got 1 the first kill.
Did 5 more and no staff, but got pet on 3rd to last.

All normal mode, we haven't done any heroic yet.

My advice would be to form a group of 5 guildies, preferably with as many lvl 70 alts available as u can get.
For example, our second party had a Hunter, Me(Lock), Resto Druid, Resto Druid, Resto Shaman.
But the first druid had a 70 mage and 70 warrior with decent gear.
The second druid had a 70 warrior with decent gear.
The shaman had a 70 hunter with raid gear and a 70 mage.

The first resto druid was in my first party, so only his 2 alts could summon.
The second resto druid was the tank(warrior) for my first party, so summoned from his druid.
The Shaman had 3 characters to summon with.
We wiped once because our resto druid(the only healer character in party at the time) disconnected during the first phase.
So we got 6 summons out of it, and I couldn't even summon.
If they had all been unused, we would've had 10 summons available, and able to do a heroic.
The fight is about long enough to use a heroism every other one, and we were able to kill him during the first "core" phase 3 times out of the 11 kills because of it.
We all have T6 raid gear except the hunter, so individual results may vary. :p <--- our mains have the T6. Helps when the healer has endgame gear for sure, as well as a high dpser.

I would recommend a shaman of any kind if u are going to be doing multiple kills, just because of the extra DPS provided.

Never seen this drop, but only done the boss five times. But I want it on my druid, so I hope it drops. Think I've seen like two people with this staff. One in my guild. Stormscale EU.

Confirmed, this item drops from both Normal and Heroic mode. No data yet on if the drop rate is different between the two, although I did get my staff on my first heroic kill.

Since most people will get this purely for looks, you should be warned before spending gold on an expensive enchant:

Just as with so many other weapons that have their own glow, enchants don't seem to add any additional glow to Frostscythe of Lord Ahune.

Killed him 6 times, (1 heroic, 5 normal) and it DROPPED! on a normal run! So for me it was around 16% drop rate on the staff... And on top of that, the Scorchling dropped too on the 4 run, that too on normal

I used a group of : Shadowpriest(me), Mage, Fury warrior, Prot warrior and Resto druid!

I've done this over 20 times now on normal, once on Heroic, and I have only seen the Scythe drop once (in normal). I have never seen the pet drop, and have only seen the tank and caster cloak drop once. I have, however, seen the healing cloak many times, and the melee DPS cloak at least 10 times.

And the one time it did drop it went to a guildie who barely even plays anymore and didn't have any epic items. I'm still furious about that.

Enchanting Savagry does not show on this weapon.

But enchanting Deathfrost does show - albeit its not very noticable.

Downed him 9 times on Normal mode. It dropped on the ninth summon and I won it with a roll of 25. Never seen the pet drop. Looks as good as I hoped.

A very nice staff, probably one of the best pre-raiding staves until you replace it with Staff of Infinite Mysteries from Karazhan. Get it while you can!

I want this for 2 reasons.
One - it looks amazing.
But more importantly, while its stats are pretty lacklustre, that 13mp5 makes it useful. Slap a spirit enchant on this, and it becomes useful to switch out when you're running low on mana or not casting (running from arcane orbs in SSC or from Big Bad Wolf in kara for example).

Ahune himself was quite difficult, We killed him on the 3rd try after we all purchased potions and elixirs because mana or lack of it became an issue and on the 3rd rotation of his spam and hide phases did we kill him and i got the staff, so i guess i was just lucky.

Btw everybody but me had 2 pieces of tier 4 so he was pretty tuff

this dropped for me, and a feral druid and holy priest needed it over me, a destro warlock. kinda sucked knowing they didnt have much use for it but o well. i understood the priest needing but the druid was a bit much

I'd want this staff for my mage just because its somewhat easy to get, is cool, and has the 13 mp5, which helps a lot in PvE. Too bad Midsummer Fire Festival is over though *sniff sniff* :(

Oh and btw to all you that keep asking about enchants on this: This staff and ALL the items in the game that have a glow effect on them just won't have their glow effect replaced by the enchant glow effect. Remember that so one day you stop asking in Trade chat... or just learn it the hard way after spending half your money on 2x mongoose :)

just got this on my shaman...im enhancement but hey, this is by far the kewlist looking weapon in the game. but honestly...who would this be an upgrade for considering the merciless weapons aer on welfare, and everyone/anyone can just pop into AVs for the tokens.

Why is it all the caster weapons look so freaking cool but the melee 2hs for the most part look kinda bland by comparison.

alrighty this is my first post on thottbot, ive come here for countless answers, but now i can finally contribute, i noteced there is a lack of strategies on ahune floating around, and i have developed one that has been working 100% of the time in normal, and roughly 60% in heroic (only cause some members of team were not geared well enough)
first i recommend a pally tank <--- me :)
for dps i suggest 2 aoe classes and 1 straight dps class, i went with lock mage hunter, and a solid healer, one that can aoe heal as well is good. first u need to clear the mobs in the first cavern all the way until the pat mod you ussually just run arround at the after the 4 bogs. next have the entire team run back the hallway leading into the main cavern where the monolith to summmon him is. how the fight goes is a ton of adds will spawn with minimal health and 1 lvl 70 elite will spawn as well. the tank should stay inbetween the 2 brazzers at the entrance way of the cavern (end of the hallway) with all the dps behind him. have the straight dps focus sololy on the lvl 70 elite and have the tank on the 70 elite (i dropped consecrates non stop to aggro all the adds that will spawn) the adds start out with a single ranged attack then they move in for melee, so dont worry bout them not coming down right away they will. Important also if a piece of ice starts toform on the ground, move cuase it will spike u way in the air and cause some damage comin down. as the aoe takes out the non elite mobs and the 70 at the same time, once the elite drops, slowly work your way up to ahune (not getting too close just yet ) once it announces his gaurd is down, UNLOAD!, in reg u can get roughly 40% of his health gone per phase, heroic more like 15 ish. once his guard comes back up and it says elemental guard returns or something like that, everyone runs back to the hallway with the tank in front and starts over again. bring plenty of pots, and keep up the strrategy and he should go down. (areuserious pally tank shadowsong)

If you use it while it is equipped, it will start to snow above you ^^

It's too bad this staff has such poor spell damage. The Curator staff is better and an upgrade that will no doubt come too soon for any caster who has always wanted a scythe, such as my poor little shadow priest, who is less than 15 badges from the Scryer's Focus dagger.

Then again, I suppose being a once a year event this staff would be OP if it had better stats. Still, if no one in my group needed the upgrade, I'd roll on it for looks alone. (Haven't seen it yet, but gawd, it's a scythe!)

you can get the quest to summon him from any earthen ring elder. he gives a quest to go to zoram strand, kill lvl 20ish mob for a quest item, summon a ghost wolf when you get the quest drop, do another quick quest in same area, turn it in and you will get sent to the slave pens. now you can summon him

the repeat quest is found within the cave right where you fight ahune, you cant miss it.

tried 14 times to get this. on the 14th one it drops, i had to give it off to my buddy because it was actually an upgrade for him, either way it looks sick and gratz to him for being one of the first on the server.

you do not need the quest to summon him, you get to summon him once in regular per person and then in heroic u can summon him once per person until u kill him. so u get 5 chances in heroic to kill once i believe. the only thing the quest does is allow u to get a reward for killing him. But we had people in our group summoning him without the quest.

Just a simple question.....can this guy be raided?

The reasons I ask is two fold.

1) I just dinged 70 and am obviously not geared up for heroic fights as yet, even with the khorium set and felsteel set (working on the shattered sun reps now), and even on normal mode, he is a 73 boss. We tried last night with friends but just not geared up for the full fight just yet, and really not sure I and my roommate can buff up enough before the festival ends.

2) secondly, as this is a seasonal boss encounter, like the headless horseman (which could be raided), it seems reasonable to me that it could be raided as well. This would make it much easier to handle overall as you would get more summons with a larger group (and therefore more attempts in a day for the drops you are looking for), the fight is less taxing (especially for healers!), and lower levels (I am thinking extra healing primarily as ahune is lvl 73 so dps is iffy) can get some of the 'extra' gear that the well-heeled 70's don't need....bear in mind the drops are NOT disenchantable, but are venderable. raiding this seems like a good way for guilds to bulk up their younger/lower level members ahead of the level cap. Last year at 61 I weas fully able to heal effectively and hurt the horseman and ended up with both caster rings for helping out.

So then, asking if anyone knows if this can be raided?

After 128 run i finally got mine to day!
all in normal.
during that 128 runs, the pet dropped 4 time, the enchant dropped 3 times, and this staff only once!

heres a screen so you can see the snow effect. it last as long as the cooldown, so you never have to go with out ;-)

This dropd on my 7th run along with the enchant and melee dps cape however our %^&*in healer needed it also for a off spec, and it was a upgrade 4 me :(

This can drop on Normal in Burning Crusade Classic. Anecdotally, the drop rate seems lower than in Heroic - which would make sense, given Heroic is limited to 1 kill per day. It took about 60 Normal kills to drop for me.
