This is Tier 3 of the Axesmithing two-handers.
The attack power and crit are more than that of the Macecrafting and Swordsmithing tier 3 weapons (similar to the sword).
Lack of stamina make it worse than the Thunder maces for PvP.
Depending on the proc rate of the Lionheart Swords, this may be a better option for solo / PvE dps.
In any case, this line is the best for Orcs with the +5 axe skill racial (which will probably be buffed).

was wondering what the real bonus in making an orc warrior for this wep wud be , i have a rading elf and undead warrior ,figure why not make an orc too they seem to be pretty nasty wit an axe and we all know that 2h axe or polearm is the best for ms warrior. can somebody pls let me know what skill + really does in pvp and how much ap bonus it is for orc at lvl 70 with that racal buff thing they got goin on thx

Seeing as this isn't much better than Season 2 gear, it won't be worth maxing out your blacksmithing profession just to get it - the amount of time and money you'll need to throw at blacksmithing and raiding for mats for this axe just won't be worth it over the Season 2 axe unless you have a serious aversion to doing arena matches.

This weapon deserves some more loving. Both the T3/T2 Weaponsmithing 2H sword and mace have a built in proc of some sort and the axe doesn't, how ridiculous is that? It should have a proc of some sort like:

Chance on hit: Increase Agility by 120 for 12 sec.

I'm thinking of getting this on my paladin at level 70,he is already 375 blacksmithing at level 64,my guild says i should get this instead of Hammer and swordsmith.I was just wondering if i should,by the way im a ret paladin

The mace seems to be more pvp oriented, the sword looks to be pve and pvp, would this axe be more pve solo farming?

as of 2.4.2 you can craft 1 2h weapon and 2 1h weapon ( to craft more than that will be a bit of a waste of money :D ),

the epic 1H from master axe/sword/mace are now "one hand" and no longer unique, so you can have 2

This item had highest amount of critical strike rating in game during TBC expansion. 56 crit rating is translated to 2.54% critical strike chance at 70, and with Warrior's axe specialization, critical strike chance increases by 5%, so final amount would be 7.59%.

I started leveling my shaman (he was a long abandoned lvl 31 tauren) after seeing this. He is 42 now, and he WILL get this, however long it takes!

This looks like a mainly PvE weapon though, since it has no STA at all.

Warriors would love this Axe. Axe Mastery gives +5% crit, Sword Mastery gives +5% chance for a free second attack, Mace Mastery gives +5% chance to stun.

So while stat wise it isn't necessarily the best, because of our talents this is probably the most desirable Axe.

the axe is for straight up DPS and adding stats to your crit and AP only.

strength increases AP by 2 for every 1 point.

sword= 56 str x 2 = 104 AP.
mace= 42 str x 2 = 84 AP
axe = 112 AP.

at level 70, about 34 agil will equal 1% crit chance for a warrior

16.6 crit rating = 1% crit chance for a warrior.

sword = 1.29% crit chance
mace = 1.29% crit chance
axe = 3.37% crit chance

when spec'ing axe/polearm specialization, the warrior gets an extra 5% crit chance.

so the axe will total up to 8.37% crit

the other weps are made for rounding out several abilities at once. agil for dodging a bit more with some extra armor and crit, strength for some dps and stamina for some health.

the axe is made to buff up AP and Crit chance ONLY and thats strictly for dpsing the most.

The endgame weapon that axesmiths will shoot for. It requires 20 nether vortex's and the mooncleaver to make. If I were to venture a guess, I'd think that the nether vortex will probably drop one of the harder caverns of time instances (possibly the Hyjal portion).

I would like to disagree on the post where you stated that warriors would like the axe over the mace/sword..

I as a warrior has chosen Lionheart champion.. why? I will try to explain:

Axe - gives you 5% crit
Sword - gives you 5% chance to get an extra hit
Mace - gives you 5% chance to stun the target for 3 sec

if you give it a look you can see they are almost the same.. a crit is like an ordinary EXTRA attack.. but with flurry priviliges.. which makes sword effect just as good.. and the stun effect (3 sec) gives you time to haul out another white dmg attack..

HOWEVER I have been swordspecced for a decent while and the sword procc can not only crit, but also double procc.. (giving you 3 swings in one)..

this is why I chose sword..

Imagine getting a triple procc (yes it is possible) and critting only half of those 4 hits.. its like an imba windfury or something.. if I am wrong then prove it :P

I know you guys are stating the sword specs etc gainst each other but your forgetting races, a human should probably go with swords and an orc should probably go with axes for the extra skill which makes a big difference.

ppl keep telling me that the blacksmithing mace/sword are better for a warrior cuz of the stun/sword spec. i dont think so, i'd rather have a dependable +ap and crit with the axe spec then a random proc thats all about luck.

You dont need to nerf this...simple reason...its incredibly hard to craft this thing...how many ppl u think that will have this axe equipped?

And yeah, my arms axe/polearm specced war would love to use this. But im happy I got that singing war axe though.

As many have said before, there will be no nerfs.

Standard weapons at 70 have 93.X dps. Does 30 more make the weapon "insane?" I doubt it, but a significant difference nonetheless. I think they wanted to make the weapon good enough to craft but not so good that the wielder is invincible.

Plus, take a look at the equipment available at 70. A lot of pieces lack strength, and that's another reason they can make these weapons so beefy. Note how they're adopting an all-5-piece-set itemization, meaning that until some better boots/gloves/bracer drops come out, those five pieces will likely be the noticable factor separating you from that other warrior.

Look at your base warrior stats at 70 and then check out the best gear, the best gems, and the best enchantments available to you. It looks to me like you would be able to max out at 3000 with a mortal strike crit, but the average would be more around 2600... before damage reduction, with this weapon. Normal, non-crit swings would be around 1000-1200. Granted, that's unbuffed, but everyone can get buffs.

In the upcoming patch (presumably the 15th or 22nd), this item will be altered. The stats are being increased (slightly more to each of its stats including damage).

More importantly, this and all other Tier 3 crafting weapons are dropping to 5 Vortexes from 20.

It'll take a while to get this, but since I'm an orc warrior I'll stick with axes. A solid +5% crit, IMO, is more reliable.

Right here’s a break down of the tier 3 craftables for warriors based on my opinion:

Stormherald: small proc chance on deep thunder, hardly ever procs tbh and I know this because I have PVPed my friends warrior. not sure on proc chance of stormheraled but based on the fact that there is little difference between Deep and Storm in other respects, I am pretty sure that there will be a massive contrast in proc rate of the stun either, you are relying on chance with this stun. However awesome stats.

lion heart: similar to storm I should imagine, low proc rate on the crusader buff but I suppose if you get sword spec (extra swing) flurry (so attack speed will increase = more swings over time = more hits and hence chances for proc and crusader then this will probably improve quite significantly. Just theories though I have never used this wep tbh… 5% chance to resist fear is a beast though imo although quite a small chance.

Blood moon: all reliable stats. Combine this with axe spec and that’s and extra 7.5% chance to crit from your weapon alone. Nice attack power buff which would imo, ensure that this baby hits higher than other two and nice dps (which admittedly is evident among all three of the tier three weapons) this would be the weapon I would choose. Furthermore, none of these buffs are based on luck, crit is a general chance scenario but nether the less, this weapon just helps to ensure that when you fight someone, they die very quickly.

These are just my personal thoughts which I thought I would share with you. Hope it helps :D

Either way, that is an insane weapon. I've already dropped alchemy/herbalism and am working on BS/mining now. (My war was my first character and I was very nubish when I chose herb/alch)

Oh, and people who choose swordsmith cause that weapon "looks better"... get out of your chair and go play Pretty Pretty Princess so you can make yourself as pretty as you want to be in WoW.

As res gets higher i noticed in arena that the average res is 200+ which is about 5% to resist a crit.

Think about it, axe warrior have about 35 - 40% to crit..and maces warriors have 30% if they are good.

You will get more damage if you used axes in arena than maces, as you crit loads more, even the puny mace procs, that alow for that extra 800 hit, wouldn't stand much against a massive 2k crit.

All i gotta say, and im an axe warrior...Mooncleaver ftw

I'm lucky enough to have craftd one of these beautiful things, and graced the arena with it until I had all S2 gear.
Those combined, preists (holy especially) and mages are corpses in 5 seconds or less, crit-depending. (Critrate is about 38%)
Honestly, with Axe spec and some decent gear, unless there's a few or more people on you with decent CC abilities at their disposal, you're gonna wreak havoc with one of these. One scenario in AV I was by the FW GY and 3 horde were camping it, I took all of them and they were being ressurected but I was still beating them until more allies arrived and took the GY, ended up with about 30% health in the end.

Word of warning though, people see 'Field Marshal' and that gear, they tend to back off and let you be a 2H tank of sorts against encroaching players :P

This is a completely worthless item now. Who wants to go through the trouble of getting the Vortex Nether when you can just do ten games of arena for a few weeks and but the equivilent Merciless axe or the even better Vengeful one. I have the lunar crescent and it makes me sad that it will never see its true form. They should upgrade the damage on the weapons for the next patch.

Wow. this is definitely a weapon that should take 3 shots to kill a lvl 40. at lvl 70 i could 2 shot most lvl 70 clothies (depending on their gear, of course). 2.4 makes this even easier to make with the addition of the ability to trade in badges for nether vortexes.

--->>again, for those of you thinking this will be outdated with the addition of season 2 or 3 arena weapons is hugely mistaken. yeah with the arena weapons you are getting this nice dps but you are stil losing stats to the res stacked on arena weapons.

ARENA POINTS
lets see how a "few" weeks of doing 10 games of arena will get you the venge 2h anyway.

lets say the average arena doer goes 5-5 on their 3v3 every week and stays at the standard 1500 arena rating (which never seems to happen to me when i go 5-5) you will get 302 arena points a week.
302 points a week x 13 weeks= 3926 points
FINALLY enough to get the venge 2h weapon! oh wait you have to have an arena rating of 1850 :(
(unless you are a $%^&*!@ - damn them)

there is a reason the stats are a small increase from mooncleaver, but if every warrior is running through bgs with the tier 2 bs crafted weapon killing people all over the place, why would the stats be a huge improvement? This weapon appears to be a small upgrade compared to mooncleaver, but in good pve warrior dps gear the +25 more damage or so per swing = to muchhhh more dps, and even way huger crits.

alright guys i'm havin a hard time choosing what i want to make i'm a ret pally and want to stay a ret pally. so far i've mainly used swords and have lvled up that skill and not so much mace and axe. it looks like the axe would be the best for dps having the more crit and increasing the AP. the sword offers strength and agi both which come out to less then what the axe gives. correct? (i honestly dont know). but the mace gives strength and agi(like the sword only slightly less on the agi and 10 less on the str) but its the only one with stam and lets face it staying alive longest is good. so being a ret pally would i want to go for the axe?
