Most crafted Items were crap and the primary reason for that has always been that blizzard was afraid that nobody would go into the large instance-Dungeons to get their Equipment if they could just buy it.

So I as a master axesmith am pretty happy I can finally build a nice Weapon and even if I can't sell it.
Finally there is something I can build which is worth keeping and it's even upgradable.
I think that's a pretty nice Idea!

I counted the the raw materials
For this axe:

60 fel iron ore
24 eternium ore

So is Axesmithing worth doing? Im going to change to axesmith from armoursmith when the BC comes out. Can you tell me are
the materials very hard to get. Im not expecting them to be easy but I would hope there not going to be as hard to get as sulfuron ore or the other epic ores available already.

I too am impressed with Blizzards work on the patterns, as it seems like now theres some nice gear at the end of the rainbow so to speak..well done blizzard

I guess my question would be this: What happens if I enchant my Planar Edge and then go to upgrade it a bit later? Will the enchant still be on the weapon after the upgrade or is it lost during the upgrade?

I recently created this one-handed axe for my warrior a couple of weeks ago and I have been dealing so much damage. This axe is recommended for high dps. I was competing with a frost mage the other day and I almost out damaged him.

Cosmetic question about this item, does it sheathe on the hip or back? Im curious because I see that the Fel Edged Battleaxe ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23542#00z ) goes across the back, and not the hip. Anyone?

I crafted this axe last night on my warrior and found out that it is quite small in the hands of an Orc. It may hit like a truck but it looks like a thowing axe. Very disappointed to say the least.

When I saw this Axe I just stared at it (well the final version) versions 1 and 2 are really good too. I couldn't believe I had dropped mining before BC came out, so when it came out I was back down to 1! But I got it back up and actually, as you mine for the materials, you can get the motes on the way at 70. In Nagrand there is a really nice spot where you can get air/fire/earth motes easy.

Oh btw, there are lots of cool effects you can put on it to make it look cool, like agi or potency like you said

Note that both this and the upgrades are getting buffed by several DPS in the next patch, along with most other epics as well.

Also, the cost of upgrading to https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=34542 has been diminshed by about 30% (8 primal nethers instead of 12, the fel steel bars are unchanged but insignificant).

Anyone who dual weilds and wants a super cheap, easy to get main hand weapon can't go wrong with these.

^^^ You know this axe can only be main handed right?
It's not like the 1h swords (blazefury and blazeguard) that can be Dual wielded.

I made this after farming shadow 2 days in nagrand.Well worth all the mats.I just got a 1551 crit with heroic strike, and I'm prot :P.Also the mob I was fighting was a 60 elite with 4 sunders.

yah i have 1 of these i just went fury and im offhanding the Retainer Blade from scryer exaulted i can hold like amazing dps
i'm goin to upgrayed this baby and then get some vortexs outa TK trash and i'm gonna be pimpin the dps meters

its a great hunter or warrior weapon.. questionably a shammy weapon shammys can hit hard with any thing though

looks like all weapon smiths get an awesome 1h and 2h they can craft. Nice change to BS to make it good again.

All of the nice recipes are trainable at the weapon smith in terrokar.

shammen have a tallent that allows them to duel weild MAIN HAND weps...so yes...if it wasnt unique then they would duel weild them

This binds when picked up.

There aren't a lot of Hunter blacksmiths, so don't expect to see a lot of these. Certain warriors could certainly use it, though.

Note that it can be upgraded (twice) to a substantially better weapon.

Is this a droped recipie, or is it tought from the trainer or is it a quest. Im probly going to just take up ax smithing because engineering has absolutly nothing to offer with this expansion.

I just love the way you make this axe and then gradually improve it to its 3rd stage. Mats for the final transformation are a mission thou.

I have 8 Primal Shadow from casually browsing the AH and killing a few Voidwalkers, so it shouldn't be too hard to make this weapon considering how good it is.

love the fact that you can farm mats without going to raids, this is not hard to get, as the previous poster sais, i'm a dps warrior and it's not that big a deal, only problem i had so far is the Air... i havent found a spot where i can find alot of them, have to go running around looking for 1 or 2 and see if they drop it, got all the rest, takes some time to get though, started grinding those when i was 2-4 bars in to 69, now i'm 4 bars away from 70 just by trying to get this axe =/

Edit: in Shadowmoon valley theres a spot at the far end (forgot the name) where you can find plenty of those Air Elementals.
So if i remember correcly it was netherstorm for mana, blade's edge for fire, zangarmarsh and nagrand for water, also in nagrand for the shadow shadowmoon for air, and earth from mining.
There must be some other places where you can get them, but that's where i got them.
I'll post pic later when i get that half a bar to get to 70.

So i finally got the last mats for the Battlemaster enchant. got it smacked on my nifty axe... Dosnt Work..

Seems like theres a Bug where the Battlemaster enchant dosnt proc on The planar edge - got this confirmed by a GM - just a warning :)

This isn't nearly as hard to make as it looks. I hit 350 smithing last night at level 65. The weapon isn't useable until level 70.

I have five more levels to gather the mats to make this item, which is as good a headstart as I've ever had in blacksmithing.

The challange is the upgraded weapon, which I'm gonna need for bashing Illidan's night-elf face.

you lvl the axe, you keep upgrading it till you get the wicked edge of the planes, same goes for all the smithy weps, wwhich are now the best wepons in the game=P

Some one asked if enchanting this is a bad move. Do you lose enchants after upgrading to the Black and Wicked versions of this axe ?

You loose the enchant evertime you upgrade any of the crafted weapons.

Ya, thanks to the guy who said this weapon was an "Aggro Magnet". He was right. I took his suggestion to make it and after gathering the mats for "The Lunar Crecent" i wasn't far from the mats required for this weapon, so total ammount spend on mats was around 300g (felsteel sucks to have a guildie make since i cant mine). I made this weapon and i've gotta say it's a good investment. The damage done by this weap does indeed work well with devastate.

I gotta say this is a really nice upgrade from the sword i got from killing Durn (exalted with aldor doesn't really have a good tank sword :-/

This axe rly pwns alot. got it together with the dagger from 3rd boss in Kara and I do kickass damage. with a shammys totems I have 2500 attackpower and no Im not all epic geared.. got most pvp non set veteran epix and a single merciless. Fury DPS ftw.

Got this wep as fury warrior and it rox. If I ever wanna change spec to prot Ill still have this axe for devastate that will become an agro magnet due to the high base damage.
