This dagger, given current itemisation, is currently one of the poorer Epic daggers in the game. Whilst it is better than most Rare daggers, the vastly superior Perdition's Blade can be obtained later on in Molten Core, and is a huge upgrade in comparison.

After a year or so of farming MC, even Shaman seem to be quite keen on this dagger now =)

The Proc on this weapon seems to go off frequently and helps quite a bit while in battle. Not a bad offhand.

Well it's not bad, but there are much better daggers at the level. Especially with BC coming out, when level 70 greens are better than level 60 epics. There isn't much point in farming in this, or other current epics.

This weapon definitely does not compare to the other daggers currently available. It would be a decent off-hand maybe, but you should probably wait for perdition's blade which drops later in the Molten Core.

"Q: How does the attack power bonus work? Why is a slow weapon better in the main hand?

A: The attack power bonus is a pure DPS bonus. Roughly 14 points in attack power equals 1 point of DPS bonus...I don't believe it scales by level.

Since it is a DPS bonus, and not a damage bonus, it works in an interesting way. Suppose you have a 20 dps attack power bonus, so roughly 300 attack power. For argument's sake, lets suppose you have a main-hand weapon which is 1.00 speed with an average damage of 20. For this weapon, 20 dps means 20 damage per per hit. So your average damage in your main hand will go up 20 damage points due to the attack power bonus.

Weapon #1:
20 average damage, 1.00 speed = 20 dps
+20 average damage = 40 average damage, 40 dps

Now let's say you have another weapon which is 20 dps, but 2.00 speed. So, it's average damage per swing is 40. For this particular weapon, 20 dps = 40 damage per hit. So in this case, your average damage will go up 40 damage points due to your attack power bonus.

Weapon #2:
40 average damage, 2.00 speed = 20 dps
+40 average damage = 80 average damage, 40 dps.

Both weapon #1 and #2 have the same DPS, but weapon #2 is a much better mainhand weapon. Obviously there are no 1.00 speed weapons, but the point still holds."

From the Rogue FAQ stickied on the official WOW rogue forum. Now please stop rehashing this stupid argument. Slower speed adds to damage per hit outside of dps and with instant attacks like ambush, sini, etc. that ignore weapon delay a slower weapon will hit harder.

Barman Shanker at example attack power 542(current power on my rogue) at a speed of 2.0=105 average damage IF THIS WERE AT 1.0 SPEED. Since it is at 2.0 speed, given the way delay works, the average damage jumps to 210 per swing(105 X 2). Barman's average Damage per swing=210.

Now take the Deathstriker, with better min/max damage and dps than a Barman's but faster speed:
Same attack power at a speed of 1.7
average damage=77.5+32 from attack power bonus=109.5 times 1.7 speed=186.15. Deathstriker average damage per swing=186.15.

So a barman's hits for 23.85 more damage per swing despite the fact that that is has less min/max damage and lower dps. In other words the fact that it is .3 sec slower actually gives 23.85 more damage per ambush/bs. Now please stop rehashing this stupid arguement.

P.S.: Given all that, however, the Gutgore's calculations come out to be 11 points more damage per swing than the Shanker so yeah, its a better ambush/bs dagger than Shanker.
So to recap:
slowerspeeds=hit harder even if lower min/max and dps.
Barman's > Deathstriker for ambush/bs raw damage.
Gutgore > Barman's for ambush/bs raw damage.
Gutgore>Deathstriker>Barman's for min/max and raw dps.

I've had this dagger for a couple weeks now, and you don't need to $%^&* about its debuff taking up slots in MC. It appears all the mobs in MC are immune to its debuff, thanks blizzard! However the proc/debuff works wonders in general pve/pvp =].

As of patch 1.8 this is the second best ambush dagger in the game. All rogue specials are now based on a 1.7 speed, making only the damage range matter for ambush/backstab. The shanker is now a turd, and this dagger is godly. As far as I know, only Perdition's is better for Ambush/Backstab at the moment.

*edit* There are actually a few better daggers now, making this maybe the fourth or fifth best dagger. Perdition's is better, the Dragonfang from Vael the Corrupt, Fang of the Faceless from Hakkar, and the dagger from one of the new outdoor dragons are all superior. This is still a very nice weapon however.

What dream world are you living in? Not only does the fang have better damage range BUT it has +AP and +crit.

The proc rate of the gutgore is mediocre at best, and somehow I don't think 25 int is really gonna get a decent mage oom.

But if its all you can get go for it.

LOL funny story. I had the most DKP in my rogue "group" for This dagger and when it dropped, i was pretty syched. Then the hunter group started talkin about letting one of them get it. I told them straight out "Whoever the hell bids dkp on this weapon is truly a noob. Get something with stats, and dont waste ur DKP $%^&*!@. Well, I almost got kicked out of the guild for that comment. But i got my dagger so they can stfu! =D noob hunters ftl...

This one drops of Sulfuron Harbinger in MC. It's not one of the more common drops.

I haven't had the proc break gouge as of yet, and it goes off all the time. Definitely worth spending points on if you know you have a little time before you can farm Rag, or you dont want to spend the time outside of MC getting a Lobotomizer. This dagger, paired with about 600 attk pwr and 24% crit means you will be two shotting a LOT of casters.

dropped again on illidan...this time it went to a rge.....

the first drop in illidan sadly went to a warrior...who has it in the off hand...rge passed on the item because he was a "sword" rge (alliance)

2nd drop went to a rge (horde)

Agree with DSaza... the only rogues that can kill anything end game non gank, are dagger or macve specced rogues. There is no other way.( assuming the other person is good and not accounting for rocket helm i.e.)

I am sadly not dagger specced yet had to respec for instance... makes playing my rogue boring as hell.

with dire nail with max attk being 72 :( this would be awesome to have... prolly would rather have 2 fels though.

yub, warlock dagger - shadow dmg. or hunter dagger, because it lowers all stats so that the one whose stats are loweres is as useless as the hunter.
best druid dagger, too. AND no paladin should be without one.

I like the 1.9 Skin. Makes it look more epic. Im bored with this Dagger anyway. Had it way too long. I wish my guild could get Perditions or Dragonfang to drop. Killed Rag 11 times now and we've gotten ZERO Perdition's. /Spit

I get Nightslayer Gloves before from Gehennas and garr droped it ... I'm from always dagger rogue and sword rogue got it for off hand ( i was out of dkp - gloves ). That made me sick :/ . I think the next would drop in next month with that #$%^ty droprate. @@ GG.

This dagger is clearly very good for rogues, best backstabs ingame with this dagger.

Proc breaks gouge :\

Since it doesn't proc that often its not much of an issue, i've had this for about a month but it broke my gouge on a mob today in EPL. The chance of this thing procing on a gouge is very low but it does happen.

And today it dropped for 'us' (Reign of Chaos, Stormreaver-EU). I was first on the DKP list and hoping for it for a while, so I can safely say the drop made my day :).

Other drops were the Aurastone Hammer and Flamewaker Legplates if I remember correctly.

but still Shanker makes this weapon pale on Ambush

Shanker ambush =1200-1600
Ripper Ambush = 1000-1300

im bit dissapointed on this weapon but damn they gonna nerf Shanker for gods sake :(

but im still wondering how long that -25 stats will last on mob ?

and its definitly for a hunter that is a noob or just jerk or doesnt know jack$%^&

finally got mine last night(7/20)!
Garr dropped it along with brutality blade and something that isn't worth mentioning by comparison, I (Cashis) got the dagger and nightslayer pants earlier, Sow got the brutality blade and NS gloves. Truely a rogue night, NS boots and Chest also dropped and went to other guild rogues. Looks like a finkle's skinner with color changes, hopefully they update the art for it. :/

To answer the question about the proc, it lasts about 15 seconds i think. Azuregos reflected it back onto me, which sucked! the -25 stats is a killer in a big fight like that.

Hoping to get my corehound tooth soon, i had the unfortunate pleasure of receiving a fang of the mystics last night since no one wanted it. Couldn't leta 51 dps offhand become shards, and bonescraper isn't that much better for me at this point folks.

Fang of the Faceless has more max dmg, hence it is a much better main hand dagger. Granted, this is a very nice main hand...they made the 20 man Zul'gurub dagger better. Grats to anyone who gets either, both are very nice.

What enchant would be best on this? I'm using GGR in my mainhand and lobotomizer in my offhand. I can't decide which enchants are best for both (for PvE raiding), I've had so many differing opinions so far.
btw I'm combat dagger spec.

OMG, this thing SUXOR! I would shame any rogue that has it and make a point that everyone that has it that isnt a rogue is UBER cool. WELL, i challenge you to prove that a rogue should roll on this over a warlock, whos DPS in main hand is the most important factor in their playing style, just think, just think if they could dual weild. WTFPWNT! o yah this is a response to all the stupid talk about Fang of the Mystics!

I don't know you but I have 46.9 DPS from Attack Power.

According to the way game mechanics works, here's the final BASE damage of every single strike:

57-107+1.6*46.9=132-182 (Core Hound Tooth)
54-101+1.7*46.9=134-181 (Felstriker)
51-95 +2.0*46.9=145-189 (Shanker)
63-119+1.8*46.9=147-203 (Gutgore Ripper
73-137+1.8*46.9=157-221 (Perdition)
79-120+2.0*46.9=173-214 (High Warlord's Razor)

Sorted in order of best-mainhand dagger. Best off-hander so far being Core Hound Tooth.

Dropped for us today and was promptly bid up into the stratosphere by the participating rogues. ;) Congrats, Keenn, hope it's worth those 10 raids' worth of DKP. ;)

Actually, Core Hound Tooth is a better dagger than this due to the 1% critical and 20 attack power it adds. Felstriker and Core Hound Tooth (major domo chest) would be potentially the best ambush/bs rogue combo. This one is a close second.

i got one the other day. the proc is great in pvp. with around 800 attack power i'm nailing cloth for 1500+ ambush and 1000-1150 backstabs. it's nasty!
